Canada, Canadiens, Can I get some Canadian help
DNA here...well just a normal non-wowish question...are there any Canadians out there who would like to help me adjust myself to our (yeah i'm Costarican but was born in Canada, left at age 4) Beautiful country, anyways Im looking for an Appartment in Vancouver or in Toronto... have NO idea what's a reasonable(cheap) price for an apartment, id be going with a friend(female), so i need to prepare and have a very straight view regarding this, I mean its in like 3 months... so yeah Jaynie Julian I know you guys are citizens, so If you have the time(no rush ) would you help me gather some info here...
1- I need a Job (oh and my friend is costarican (psychologist/perfect resume) so any job that may help us out to get the work permit would help a lot) hehe
2- Need to check apartment prices
3- Any recommendation pointers, help or tricks you may be willing to offer I would be more than grateful
4- Any web page or known organization you might know of that encourages foreigners to work/study there...
5- Thanks a lot people
PS: Told ya I was going someday
Cheers

Hey DNA
try this website here for rentalshttp://www.torontohomerentals.com/toronto_apartments.html
Prices for rent in toronto are roughly $800 - $1000/month for 2 bedroom apartment
Also depending on the neighborhood you might find cheaper rates but you might have to live with some rats or cock roaches
And as far as your friend having a psychology diploma. from my experience and knowing people that have come here with good education, its really tough to prove your self unless you go to a college or a university here pretty much redo everything to get the same degree/diploma
For example there are a LOT for doctors and lawyers that have come from all around the world and have world class education are working for minimum wage serving food or working construction and redoing the schooling
also check this out http://www.migrationexpert.com/Canada/Visa/visa_Canada.asp?fid=100036&utm_id=61&utm_term=Immigration%20Canada&gclid=CNewjNq1q5kCFQ0hDQodPmfDIg
edit - this is dannskie

Re: Canada, Canadiens, Can I get some Canadian help
Hmm, well my first question is this: Are you a Canadian Citizen? Seeing as how you were born in Canada, I would assume that you'd be a Canadian Citizen. But do verify that first.
If you are NOT a Canadian Citizen then the second question: Are you planning to visit or stay here permanently?
You'd have to get a working permit visa if you are planning to work in Canada temporarily. And to become a "Permanent Resident" you would have to live here at least 3 or 4 years (check that too) to be eligible to apply for a Permanent Residency.
Here is a website for a general "visitors" : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/index.asp
Here is a website for "permanent residence" : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/pr-card/index.asp
And it really depends on what job you are looking for, there seems to be lack of nurses.. maybe DNA could be a nurse!
But like Dann said earlier, most of the jobs here prefer candidates with a diploma (obtained from College) or a degree (University). It would all depend what job you are looking for.
Hope this helps!
